From the Wellness Team: Wellness Wednesday Nutrition Tip – Plan Your Summer Produce!
Learn about matching up your produce with the summer season.
Choosing to buy and eat produce that matches up with a certain season is a wonderful choice. When we buy produce that is harvested in the summer, we save a bit of money as these products have a lower price after a recent harvest. Also, in-season produce is of a higher quality and is more nutritious when consumed shortly after being harvested.
The following are a few of the fruits and vegetables that are in-season over the summer: apples, avocados, bananas, beets, bell peppers, blackberries, cantaloupe, carrots, celery, cherries, corn, cucumbers, eggplant, garlic, green beans, herbs, honeydew melon, lemons, limes, mangos, okra, peaches, plums, raspberries, strawberries, summer squash, tomatoes, watermelon, and zucchini. Choose a fruit or vegetable from this list to try each week!
