Wellness Wednesday – Trainer Tip – Fuel Your Body for Workouts
Food as Fuel
To get the best out of your workouts, you must set yourself up for success with the proper nutrition. Fueling your body consists of consuming the right fluids and foods at least 2 hours before you work out. This consists of eating healthy carbohydrates/fats that are fast digesting such as whole grain toast (peanut butter, almond butter), whole grain cereal, oatmeal, yogurt, whole grain pasta, brown rice, bananas, avocados, vegetables, etc. If you have only about 10-20 minutes before you exercise, try eating a piece of fruit such as a banana or an apple. The next important part is refueling your tank. This consists of replenishing your fluids, carbohydrates–which is your main fuel source, and protein to repair and help facilitate muscle growth. Think of your body as a vehicle, and to keep the engine running as you work out, you must fuel it properly.
