Trainer Tip Tuesday: Thorasic Spine Mobility
Purpose: to increase movement or range of motion in thoracic spine
Benefits: improved posture, increased range of motion during flexion, extension, and rotation of the thoracic spine, and decreased risk of shoulder and lower back impingement or pain due to mobility restrictions of the thoracic spine
Exercises: Sprinklers, Cat/cow
Sprinklers
Position your body face down in a quadruped position with knees under hips and wrists under shoulders Place one hand on back of head Rotate elbow up towards ceiling and back down to starting position Perform 10 repetitions each side for 2-3 sets
Cat/Cow
Position your body face down in a quadruped position with knees under hips and wrists under shoulders Push upper body away from floor to allow for shoulder blades to slide forwards Pull upper body back down towards floor and pull shoulder blades together Perform 10 repetitions for 2-3 sets
