Trainer Tip Tuesday: Eccentric Training
In this video, we show you how to take a regular exercise and make it into an eccentric movement.
We wanted to highlight adding eccentric movements into workouts for its many benefits. Focusing on eccentric training, or making an exercise an eccentric movement, is a great way to really get a feel for a movement and can help to emphasize correct form. You do this by slowing down the tempo of an exercise, like the squat that Tyler does in our video, in order or to focus on what feels “right” and “wrong” in the movement.
Additional benefits of taking an exercise and changing it into an eccentric movement include:
- lowering the risk of injury
- improving flexibility
- allowing muscles to have more time under tension which can increase overall muscle strength, muscle size, and muscular power.
Plus It makes your muscles work harder during the movement since you are going slower which means more “bang for your buck” while doing the exercise!
